Avoiding Toxic Exposures:

FOOD, WATER and COOKWARE:

o Please avoid the 12 MOST toxic fruits and vegetables or use organic varieties of these instead. (see ewg.org or chart below)

o Eat the 15 LEAST toxic fruits and vegetables (see ewg.org or chart below)

o Do not eat any FARMED Fish or ATLANTIC Salmon. Avoid the fish with the highest mercury content (shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tuna, marlin). Eat the fish with the lowest mercury content (Clam, Ocean perch, Alaskan salmon, tilapia, founder, sole).

o Choose wild, grass-fed meat that has been pastured, and free of harmful hormones or antibiotics.

o Eat only pasture-raised eggs/ grass-fed milk, dairy products (especially butter).

o Avoid all seed oils. Only use Olive oil, Avocado oil, Coconut oil, and Animal fats.

o Avoid all “added sugars” and processed food with long lists of ingredients. Use honey and maple syrup as sweeteners, if needed.

o Avoid bisphenol-A (BPA), Phthalates, and PFAS by avoiding heating or microwaving in plastic or Styrofoam containers. Instead store and heat in glass and stainless steel.

o Avoid drinking tap water and plastic water bottles. Use a high-quality water filter on all drinking water and consider a carbon water filter for showers and baths (see ewg.org or chart below). Instead replace water bottles with glass or stainless steel.

o Avoid Cooking in “non-stick pans” and using plastic cookware. Instead cook in stainless steel, ceramic, cast iron using wood and silicon cookware.

 

PERSONAL CARE and CLEANING PRODUCTS:

o Discontinue use of products that contain: Benzoic acid, BHA, BHT, DMDM hydantoin, fragrances, dyes, parfum, imidazolidinyl urea, sodium lauryl (laureth) sulfate, nonylphenol ethoxylates, phophates, anything ending in “paraben”, polyethylene glycol and anything ending in “eth”. o Avoid all fluoride toothpaste and antiseptic mouthwash.

o Avoid all antiperspirants and aluminum ingredients in deodorant.

o Use non-scented laundry detergent and avoid use of dryer sheets unless specified natural.

o Avoid all bleach and chloride-based cleaners. Instead, clean using white vinegar and baking soda.

 

HOME ENVIRONMENT:

o Use HEPA air filters during long periods of time spent indoors.

o Do not use pesticides or insecticides inside/outside of the house.

o Do not wear shoes indoors. Consider replacing your carpet with tile, stone flooring, safely treated wood.

o Replace vinyl shower curtain with cloth/nylon curtain or glass.

o Avoid touching receipts. High levels of BPA are found in most thermal receipts.

o Avoid candles and “plug ins” with synthetic fragrances. Instead diffuse organic essential oils and use plants to help clean/purify the air.

o Do not smoke or let allow anyone to smoke indoors. If you do smoke, let’s work on a plan to help you quit.

o Limit cellphone and WIFI usage.

  • Use speaker phone or headset when able.

  • Text instead of call.

  • Keep cellphone out of pockets and bedroom.

  • Keep in airplane mode when not in use.

  • Turn off Internet router overnight.
